Simultaneous determination of methemoglobin and total hemoglobin by a continuous-flow method.

چکیده
We describe a sensitive, accurate automated method for the simultaneous measurement of methemoglobin and total hemoglobin in blood. The method can be used for either continuous in vivo monitoring or intermittent sampling at a rate of 20/h. Standardization procedures are described, in which human blood treated with sodium nitrite is used. Repeatability of methemoglobin and total hemoglobin measurements, expressed as coefficient of variation in percent, are within ±4.1 and ±2.6%, respectively. Normal methemoglobin concentration’s in humans and dogs did not exceed 0.55 g/dl (3.3% of the total hemoglobin).

Little use has thus far been made of the near infra-red spectrum for the identification and determination of hemoglobin and its derivatives BJ means of infra-red photography Eggert (1) established the transparency of carbon monoxide-saturated blood and used this property for the qualitative detection of carbon monoxide poisoning.. متن کاملFructation Induces Hemin Degradation in Methemoglobin
Under prolonged diabetic conditions, HbA1c is produced from normal hemoglobin (HbA0) through a non-enzymatic glycosylation or glycation, a process which enhances the hemoglobin susceptibility to be auto-oxidized to methemoglobin (metHb). Here we are reporting that the non-enzymatic reaction between fructose and metHb (metHb fructation) induces significant changes in the gl...
متن کاملA convenient spectroscopic method for the estimation of hemoglobin concentrations in cell-free solutions.
Using a millimolar absorptivity of 7.12 +/- 0.09 at 523 nm, it is possible to estimate the total concentration of hemoglobin in solutions containing oxyhemoglobin, deoxyhemoglobin and methemoglobin in any combination. This estimate is independent of the pH in the range 6.0-10.0 and will provide concentrations comparable to that obtained by the conventional and more precise use of cyanomethemogl...
متن کاملEffects of Thyme Essential Oil and Disodium Fumarate on Ruminal Fermentation Characteristics, Microbial Population and Nutrient Flow in a Dual Flow Continuous Culture System
The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of di-sodium fumarate (DSF) and thyme essential oil (TEO) solely and simultaneously on ruminal fermentation properties and microbial abundance. A dual-flow continuous culture system (DFCC) with eight 1400-mL fermenters was used in a period of 12 d that divided to 9 d for adaptation and 3 d for sampling. Fermenters were fed 100 g d...
